This is my story. I am writing to share my experiences growing up in poverty and how I was able to overcome it. I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others who are facing similar challenges.
I grew up in a small town. My parents were both high school dropouts and we struggled to make ends meet. We often had to choose between food and utilities. Despite the challenges, we never gave up hope.
I was born into a family of six kids. I always remember being hungry and my clothes never fit right. Sometimes we would have to choose between eating and having heat in our apartment during winter.
I was the first person in my family to graduate from high school and continue my education, which was a great accomplishment. I didn’t have any money to go to college, but I had a friend who helped me get an athletic scholarship.
I played basketball for a few years but decided that I couldn’t keep living my life dependent on someone else to make my dreams come true.
I started working as an assistant manager at a restaurant, then moved up to head manager and eventually became the owner. I worked hard, but it was a struggle.
I’ve always been very driven, and I knew that if I wanted good things for myself, I’d have to go out there and get them. The first time I ever ran into Spoon was at a concert in downtown Orlando.
He was signing autographs, and I went out of my way to meet him. It was just a few months before I had opened My House, and I told him about the club.
He was really supportive, and we exchanged numbers. I started getting calls from him to come out to the shows and support me as much as he could. It really helped me out in a lot of ways. He’s a great guy.
Spoon told me that you were one of the first people to ever come out to one of his shows in Orlando.
Once I met him, I went out to see every show he did at My House. I think he knows that. I could have met him and not gone out to his shows, but I wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for Spoon.
He’s a great person as well as being a great performer. You did some backup vocals on his album, Telephone. How did that come about? I was living in Atlanta at the time, and Spoon had a show in Orlando, so I went out to see him.
When I saw him, I told him how much I liked his album. He said that he was doing the record with Don Fleming and Steve Albini, and he asked me if I wanted to be on the record. So I went out to Chicago and spent a couple of days there.
I sang on a couple of tracks. I don’t know if I can talk about what they were, but they were really good. It was really fun to do. We had a lot of laughs there, and it was a great experience. What are you working on right now? I’m working on a record with an artist who’s not really an artist but is more like a friend of mine.
We’ve been doing demos and stuff together for seven years now, and we have enough songs that we thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and do a record.
